Glasgow has no shortage of places to sink a pint in the sun. From riverside spots on the Kelvin and canalside pubs near the Forth & Clyde to rooftop terraces, student favourites and leafy city-centre gardens, the city is packed with outdoor spaces worth seeking out.

So, whether you’re after craft beer on Glasgow Green, gin in Finnieston, cocktails in a hidden courtyard or a post-park pint in the West End, we’ve rounded up some of the best beer gardens in Glasgow for your next sunny day out.

The Howgait

When: Monday – Thursday: 11am-11pm, Friday: 11am-1:30am, Saturday: 11am-12am, Sunday: 11am-11pm

Where: 100 St James Rd, Glasgow G4 0PS

We can’t believe The Howgait is in Glasgow city centre. With loads of space and greenery, its beer garden feels more like something you’d find outside a country pub than a city haunt. Plus, the energy is always cracking, since the pub is near Strathclyde University. That means a lively atmosphere which, after all, is exactly what you want from a day in the beer garden. There’s food, events and plenty of drinks on offer too, all without having to leave the city for a proper pub-garden feel.

Where: 100 Crow Rd, Glasgow G13 1JT

You can’t go wrong with Lock 27. Found overlooking the lovely Forth & Clyde Canal, it’s the perfect place to end up after a towpath stroll or a trek from Westerton to Kelvindale. With a full view of the canal, a good bit of pub grub and a drink to wash it all down, you’ll end the day fed, watered and properly relaxed.

When: Monday – Thursday: 11am-10pm, Friday – Saturday: 11am-12am, Sunday: 11am-10pm

Where: 84-86 W Nile St, Glasgow G1 2QH

Once you’ve loaded up on culture at the Gallery of Modern Art, head on down to Cùl Cùil. An intimate spot on West Nile Street, its courtyard is practically made for post-gallery chats. Or, you could spend a few hours talking a load of rubbish and belly laughing in between beers, which would be equally valid in our eyes.

The Finnieston

When: Sunday – Thursday: 12pm-12am, Friday – Saturday: 12pm-1am

Where: 1125 Argyle St, Finnieston, Glasgow G3 8ND

When the sun’s out in Glasgow, there aren’t many places better to sip on a gin than The Finnieston. The menu is stacked, with over 60 gin brands from Scotland and beyond sitting behind the bar. It’s the perfect place to try something new or stick with an old favourite, we reckon. Throw in a plush-looking garden area with plants all over the shop, and you’ve got a winner.

WEST on The Green

When: Sunday – Thursday: 11am-11pm, Friday – Saturday: 11am-12am

Where: 15 Binnie Pl, Glasgow G40 1AW

Do you love weird and wonderful craft beer? Well, we can do you one better: weird and wonderful craft beer, in the sun, on a massive green. That’s WEST on The Green. The well-loved Glasgow brewery serves up all its own elixirs, and you can sample them while looking out at the Venetian Gothic building where the beer hall is situated.

Chinaskis

When: Sunday – Thursday: 12pm-12am, Friday – Saturday: 12pm-1am

Where: 239 North St, Glasgow G3 7DL

If you’d rather spend a hot day sipping cocktails over pints, Chinaskis is the place to be. The bar boasts a cocktail menu with all the classics and more, and while it looks unassuming from the outside, the beer garden is absolutely cracking. With exposed brick walls, Charles Bukowski quotes and plenty of character, it’s a post-industrial paradise made for long afternoons that turn into late nights.

Kong

When: Monday – Sunday: 12pm-3am

Where: 23 Royal Exchange Square, Glasgow G1 3AJ

Sometimes, half the fun of a beer garden is rocking up and watching the world go by. We reckon Kong is one of the best places to do that, seeing as it overlooks Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square. Think comfy seats, stylish decor, a cracking view and resident DJs who know exactly which tunes to spin to get the atmosphere right.

Where: 42-46 North Frederick Street, Glasgow G1 2BS

The Ark is absolutely belting. For one, its beer garden is massive, with crisp pints and delicious food served all day long. Secondly, it’s a hit with the students, which means the atmosphere is always bouncing. Finally, The Ark shows live sporting events, so when the sun comes out and you’re looking to catch a lively game, the energy is always spot on.

Òran Mór

Where: Byres Rd, Glasgow G12 8QX

Spending a day museum hopping and park trekking in Glasgow’s West End? Finish off the day at Òran Mór. Housed inside a converted church right by the Botanic Gardens, it’s one of the area’s most recognisable venues and a cracking place to settle in for a few drinks after a wander around Byres Road. With that grand old church setting as the backdrop, it feels a bit more special than your average post-walk pint.
