From girl-group harmonies to old skool hip hop, we take a look at some of the best live music events coming up at this intimate Manchester venue. 

Many of you know The Ruby Lounge and it really needs no introduction, but for those few of you who don’t, The Ruby Lounge is a little gem of a venue in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Newly refurbished and lovingly cared for, many an artist have graced the stage and wowed the audience within the club's intimate rock’n’roll, sophisticated-chic confines.

As festival fever and holidays seem to take priority at this time of year, many music venues go into hibernation and it's very easy to forget about what musical mysteries could be sitting on our very own doorstep. The Ruby Lounge are renowned for the high quality and highly talented acts they book, and have lots of exciting events taking place over the coming months.

July seems to be very much an American fare. All girl trio Vivian Girls will be playing on Sunday 17th July. Their alluring girl-group harmonies alongside their garage rock-punk guitars and percussion sees them leading the way as revivalists for 60’s style psychedelia. It is so easy to lose yourself in their dream-
like melodies and summer sounds. The perfect gig for a summer Sunday evening.

The very next day, Monday 18th July, Puro Instinct will be continuing with the laid back summer vibes. Experimental and abstract, yet soft and lullaby- esque, expect to be enveloped with alluring, romantic melodies.

The final pieces in the July jigsaw are Yacht. On Monday 25th July prepare to be mesmerised by lead singer Jona Bechtolt, and fall a little bit in love with the beautiful Claire L. Evans. Expect catchy songs and infectious dance moves aplenty. Likened to LCD Soundsystem, this band will win you over with their energetic, lively and feel-good set.

1st August welcomes Ringo Deathstarr to Ruby Lounge. Their boy/girl vocals and catchy pop melodies have quickly gained this Texan shoegaze trio much critical acclaim.

The enchanting Lucy Rose is next up on Monday 8th August. This singer/ songwriter really is in a league of her own. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, Lucy has captured the hearts of many a listener. Her beautiful lyrics and angelic presence is guaranteed to have you awestruck.

September is very much a mixed bag of excitement. Jolie Holland brings some jazz and blues to the table on 6th September. Subdued melodies, dark moods, relaxed tempos and Hollands eclectic voice make for a memorable show. A modern day Billie Holiday with a twist.

Jangly garage-rock, psych-rock swagger and sweet melodies are flavour of the day on 7th September as The Fresh and Onlys take centre stage. Their feel-good, punchy, catchy rock will have you bopping along in no time.

Becoming one of the most talked about gigs, on Thursday 8th September, the legend that is Grandmaster Flash will be playing what is bound to be a memorable show. This epic event will mark the 2nd birthday of Manchester's favorite weekly hip hop night, Juicy. The forefather of hiphop is famous for his live sets. Cutting, mixing and bringing back the old-skool in the intimate setting of The Ruby Lounge is going to be a ‘you wish you would have been there’ moment if you don’t hurry up and book tickets fast.

From the ashes of Yourcodenameis:Milo, The Automatic and Bloc Party, Young Legionnaire was formed. Thick gnarly guitars, distorted vocals and catchy post-hardcore tracks are due to consume The Ruby Lounge on Thursday 6th October. This band have what it takes to be huge. A polished post-hardcore get up with
crunch.
