Non-English artists have seen a surge in popularity on Spotify, the streaming giant reports. The latest edition of the app’s annual Loud & Clear report tracks Spotify’s growth and change amid a continuously shifting landscape, and has revealed the rise in global hits as one of its key takeaways, as songs in 16 different languages made their way onto the Global Top 50 in the last year, doubling the amount in 2020.

Non-English music has generated over $100 million in royalties for the app, with Brazilian funk, K-Pop, Latin trap, and reggaeton among the genres experiencing the fastest growth. “Today’s biggest hits speak more languages than ever,” Spotify said on the report, “This music isn’t just breaking through on the charts — it’s driving real revenue, and growing fast.”
“What makes this moment so powerful is where it’s coming from. Artists creating in Portuguese, Korean, Spanish, and more — often outside traditional industry hubs — are building massive global audiences. Fans are choosing what to stream based on what they love, not where it’s from.”
Despite the slew of languages making its way onto the charts, 14 of the top 20 albums are in the English language. You can read the full Loud & Clear report on Spotify’s website.
