Skiddle's Future Headliners is here to bring you the names who are going to absolutely smash it over the next few years. From brand-new bands to DJs on the path of innovation, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the future. This time around we're focussing on Romy.

No stranger to being a headliner with The XX, Romy is now determined to carve a path of her own. The other XX members, Oliver Sim and Jamie XX have already released solo albums and the trio are still involved with each other's artistry. We can expect to hear Romy's solo debut 'Mid Air' on September 8th.

In 2020 we heard Romy's debut single 'Lifetime', a fever rush of heavy synths that was primed and ready for the dancefloor. It was the perfect prelude for what we've heard since. Working with the man of the moment Fred Again on production duties, we have only ventured deeper into the club with Romy.

The first of those singles was 'Strong', an all-out assault of strobe-like sounds reminiscent of sweaty and intense nights spent dancing away. We were graced with another dose of euphoria on 'Enjoy Your Life', which featured a simple and effective mantra about relinquishing yourself from your own perception and that of others in order to fully find yourself.

There's a clear thread throughout the singles we've heard to date from Romy and that is of an uplifting feeling. These songs are doses of dopamine and it seems to come so easily to Romy, as she provides a few minutes of pure escapism where you transcend to a different dimension.

Romy's most recent single 'Loveher' is a track of joyous queer romance. Her time spent in queer-friendly spaces such as East London clubs has allowed Romy to feel a stronger sense of community and they've elevated her sense of self-esteem as a result. To listen to 'Loveher' is to experience the closeness of love soundtracked by shimmering rhythmic patterns that emphasise the beauty of our closest connections.

The single releases so far have been incredibly exciting and we can't wait to hear the full release of 'Mid Air' in September. You can catch Romy at multiple festivals this summer including Glastonbury, All Points East and Down The Rabbit Hole.
