Liverpool’s an exciting place right now. As our editor mentioned when he lavished praise on the city earlier in the week, the clubbing scene seems to be at something of a boom point and a lot of that is down to the more intimate parties. One such party is LOLiFE, originally based in Manchester but now a firm favourite in the coastal city just down the road, and at the centre of that appeal is resident and promoter Lauren Lo Sung.

Her profile has increased with that of the night, gracing Parklife, WHP and even the Love System festival in Croatia and picking up support for her productions form a veritable who’s who of the underground of house music, Adam Shelton and Him_Self_Her among them.

This weekend she plays a double header of dates including EXHiBiT in Manchester alongside Slow Hands and then, one day later, for Freeze presents Innervisions (ticket link below). We asked her for an interview and a mix, and with her being the lovely type she is, she obliged on both.

So Lauren, for those who may be unaware of you could you introduce yourself and your style?

I'm a 22 year old DJ/ producer from Liverpool, I started learning how to mix when I was 11 years old and have been DJing to crowds for the past four years almost. I'd describe my style as bass driven Deep House music with bits of techno in there (nothing too heavy though). I love splashes of vocal now and again, and try to keep an open mind when playing to a crowd, sometimes throwing in a few classics.

I am also the founder of Liverpool/Manchester based club night 'LOLiFE', which has been running for about 4 years now too.

Tell us more about LOLiFE. What exactly is the event about and what have you got coming up?

I started LOLiFE four years ago in quirky basement venues of Manchester. It was a great opportunity for me to set my own style for the night as I was my own boss and could take it in any direction I wanted. I started gaining more confidence through it and eventually moved to bigger venues, always asking my friends to DJ alongside me.

Some of those friends; Liam King, Paul O'Hanlon and Chris Baxter, started helping out with the promoting and we decided to begin booking well known DJs to headline , people like Jordan Peak, Samu.l, Josh Butler & Jay Murt. A couple of years ago LOLiFE was selected as one of the 'Clubbing Partners' of the Warehouse Project and we have since been hosting after-parties for their main events. We were also asked to play at Parklife festival this year which I played at and represented us.

Coming up we have big plans for events over the winter, kicking off with No Artificial Colours on Thursday 10th October at the amazing Liverpool Warehouse venue HAUS. Support comes from myself, Liam, Paul & Chris. I will also be representing LOLiFE on NYE at the WHP’s 'Afterlife' which is their official after-party.

You've done a mix for us, thanks! Can you tell us about it? Is this reflective of what you play in your club sets then?

You're welcome! I've started off the mix pretty deep and floaty and it gradually builds in to more of a peak-time set. There's plenty of groove and chopped up vocals and some warm textures too.

My new unreleased track is in there 'Somethin' About Chu' which has been receiving great support from the likes of; Him_Self_Her, Adam Shelton, Josh Butler + more, it was even No.2 in Him_Self_Her's RA Chart which I was buzzing about!

Where else have you been djing this summer?

I've had some amazing gigs this summer, I was lucky enough to be asked to play at a festival over in Croatia, 'Love System' as well as Parkife. I was asked to play at a Be @ TV Showcase earlier on in the year, and the Visionquest party for the WHP.

Have you any advice for people hitting Liverpool for the first time?

First of all, get yourselves to LOLiFE!

There are some really special events happening in Liverpool at the moment, I've always loved the Manchester clubbing scene but Liverpool is getting better and better all the time. You've got the likes of Freeze who've just had Luciano + Friends, Waxxx who are constantly on top of their game bringing some of the finest DJs and producers to the city, LDMS who run their parties on a Tuesday and still have their nights packed out, and Get Down have been booking some great DJs lately too!

And finally, what else is coming up for you in the future?

This weekend I am playing for Exhibit in Manchester at 2022NQ with Slow Hands of Wolf + Lamb on Friday (20th September), and I've also been asked to play for Freeze  the day after (Sat 21st Sept), supporting the likes of Dixon, Âme and Guy Gerber, can't wait!

I've got gigs coming up in London, Newcastle, Sunderland, Stoke-on-Trent and more which I'm really looking forward to. As well as LOLiFE on Thursday 10th October as I mentioned earlier.
