Review: Face with Kerri Chandler @ The Rainbow, Birmingham

The Rainbow have just announced their huge autumn and winter line ups - with the likes of Annie Mac, SBTKRT and Scuba all set to appear at the venue over the next couple of months. 

But before we get to that star-studded season, Birmingham soiree FACE closed their summer with an exclusive 5-hour set from the legendary big hitter and deep house pioneer Kerri Chandler.

Kerri is famous for his attention to detail, and began his night with a 3 hour sound check before the club even opened. The US icon also commented that The Rainbow was very similar to his set up at home - that leaves something for the imagination, right? 

After a great warm up, Kerri took us on a 5 hour journey through some the classic edits we have become accustomed to over the years, marrying them perfectly with some of his more recent music and, as always, enhancing his set with the use of his keyboard.

Despite his status as one of the biggest names in underground house music, Kerri Chandler was humble from the off; taking time out to reach over the booth and shake hands with fans, as well as sticking around for photos for 30 minutes after his set. 

The party could have easily gone on 'til the early hours, but was forced to a halt by the door staff with a couple of tracks to go. 

All in all the night was a pleasure from start to finish - with everyone from the front to the back of the courtyard in sheer joy all evening. 

I for one can't wait for the autumn and winter showcases now - and I'm sure that everyone else will agree.
