Review: Abandon Silence 1st Birthday @ The Shipping Forecast

Liverpool promoters and purveyors of all things Dubstep and D&B Abandon Silence celebrated their first birthday last week.

Headlined by Joy Orbison and Alix Perez, the night saw a busy roster made up of every local DJ that have played at the night over the past year.

Held at Liverpool venue The Shipping Forecast, the event drew a large crowd who packed out the vaulted brick basement for a highly charged atmosphere – although it times it did get a little hard to breathe.

Performing on the night were twelve DJs, and one MC who backed all the acts. There were two headliners; Alix Perez playing from 1am to 2pm Joy Orbison stepping up from 2am to 3am. Each brought their own flavour along with a hypnotic mix of dubstep.

It was the night’s first birthday - and what a bash it was, with the return of every DJ to have played there over the last year. The bass lines were incredible and there were mixes to suite all tastes. We particularly enjoyed the R’n’B section, which came earlier on in the night, bringing sweet sounds as well as some old school rhythms to get the ladies on the floor.

Our favourite set of the night though came courtesy of Alex Perez. He played a lot of tunes that were drum and bass orientated, but pure dubstep to cater for the night as well. When he came on the crowd went wild and if they were not in a total trance already they were by the time this man put on his second record. 

Overall a fantastic event that was a credit tohow far Abandon Silence have come in their first year. Hopefully they’ll continue to be just as successful for years to come!
