Red Hot Chili Peppers have cancelled two shows after frontman Anthony Kiedis was hospitalised due to "complications from intestinal flu".

The band were forced to cancel a performance at the annual KROQ Weenie Roast in Irvine, California at the last minute on Saturday after Kiedis experienced "extreme stomach pain" at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre.

A statement from the band explained: ""Due to Anthony Kiedis' hospitalization from complications from the intestinal flu on Saturday evening, the Red Hot Chili Peppers regretfully must postpone their upcoming concert for iHeart Radio on May 17th."

Drummer Chad Smith took to Twitter to send his well wishes to his bandmate (see above). Anthony is expected to make a full recovery soon.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to headline a number of festivals across the summer, including T In The Park and Reading and Leeds.
