Paul McCartney has announced his nineteenth album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane. The new record releases on Friday 29th May via MPL/Capitol Records.

The former Beatle’s first album since 2020’s McCartney III, Dungeon Lane takes its name from a road in Speke leading to the Merseyside coast where McCartney would birdwatch in his youth, and revisits the artist’s childhood memories in post-war Liverpool along with newly inspired love songs. Stripped back and intimate lead single ‘Days We Left Behind’, which premiered on BBC Radio Merseyside, follows the 83-year old as he reminisces on his pre-fame life.

McCartney said of the single, “This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I’m just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It’s just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn’t have much at all but it didn’t matter because all the people were great and you didn’t notice you didn’t have much.”

First conceived five years ago during a meeting with producer Andrew Watt, the new record promises understated intimacy, harmonies harkening back to his Beatles and Wings days, and the grooves of his previous solo work. McCartney had previously ended his musical hiatus in November 2025 with a nearly silent track protesting companies the use of musician’s work by AI companies to train their models. The project, a protest LP entitled Is This What We Want?, was backed by artists including Sam Fender, Kate Bush, Hans Zimmer and the Pet Shop Boys.
