The Music Venue Trust have announced that over £100,000 was raised by Sam Fender's recent arena tour, which went to grassroots venues in the UK. It's thanks to the £1 ticket levy that the Music Venue Trust pushed for that this amount was raised.
Other artists such as Coldplay and Katy Perry have also signed up. On the news, Fender is quoted as saying, “It’s brilliant to see that the money raised from the arena tour is making a real difference to so many venues. The grassroots circuit has been decimated over the last 10 years or so and the idea that money from shows in big venues supports the smaller venues, where it all starts for musicians like me, is just common sense. These places are legendary.”
Initiatives such as these are vital to keeping grassroots music and culture alive in the UK. By pledging just £1 from each ticket sale, major artists are helping smaller spaces to thrive. The money has already gone to venues such at Manchester's The White Hotel, London's Paper Dress Vintage and Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff.
