Electronic music is a curious thing. Despite primarily being at it's best originally as the music of machines, its evolution over the past thirty years has seen it equally as interesting when shot with emotion and humanity. Whether it's a forlorn vision of dystopia from the most arcane of Detroit Techno or the effervescence of Royksopp's Scandinavian quirkiness, an electronic groove can often be more than just that.

Case in point the ridiculously named but rather brilliant Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (TEED in the most needed acronym in music), the one man band fronted by Orlando Higginbotham. His debut Trouble (stream above) last year saw him spotlight his own take on electronic music, an opus very much ground in the dancefloor sounds of our times but shot with enough difference, personality and charm to stand above the club fodder associated with its peerage.

Case in point the album's anthem 'Your Love', with its swirling synths, low end rumbling bassline and diva vocal replete with all the ingredients of an arena yet somehow dominated by a foreboding sense of kitsch. That quaintness is ramped up even further on 'Garden', a masterpiece of understated synth pop that sees him dueting with Luisa of Lulu And The Lampshades. Elsewhere there's enough house, techno and electro influences jostling around the musical palette, as well as the icy electronica of 'Fair', to make ti a good choice for us in the office today.

TEED's a pretty nifty DJ too (check his rather brilliant Essential Mix above if you want further proof), and he brings that panache alongside Eats Everything to Muskia up in Edinburgh's Liquid Rooms on Saturday 14th December. Head here for tickets details for that badboy.
