A new stage musical inspired by club culture is on its way, and it’s bringing serious pedigree with it.

God Is A DJ is described as “an intimate story about meeting across the divide of classical music and dance club culture”, pairing orchestral arrangements with club energy in a way that feels built for both the theatre and the dancefloor. The production will feature a live band and DJ, alongside some of the most iconic dance anthems ever made.

The show will also introduce an original title track, created by Grammy and Emmy Award-winning composer David Arnold, alongside hit songwriter Karen Poole and vocalist Sam Harper, giving the project its own modern anthem to sit alongside those club classics.

Behind the scenes, there’s heavyweight talent steering the ship. The musical has been written by Olivier Award-winning playwright Jessica Swale and is directed by Vicky Featherstone, with orchestration from Matthew Brind, whose past credits include Starlight Express and other major productions. The creative force driving the project is producer Irit Ten Hengel, whose vision brings together the worlds of theatre and electronic music culture.

While further details are still under wraps, God Is A DJ is shaping up to be a bold crossover moment, one that taps into the emotional pull of dance music while exploring what happens when two very different musical worlds collide.
