Richard Locke said "My wife lost two of her friends and her ex-mother in law to cancer last year, as well as our neighbour, and early this year my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

"Cancer is one of the UK's most prevalent diseases - nearly everyone will know someone who has suffered from one form of cancer or another. My wife and I, like many others, feel helpless in trying to help the people close to us, so we have decided to do something about it.

"We have created our own cancer organization called party4life2009 (which has been approved by the Cancer Research UK) with the aim of raising as much money as we can for this charity.

"Instead of 'race4life', which only involves women, we wanted to encourage both genders to get involved and take part, as obviously anyone can suffer from cancer.

"The first event we have booked is at the Yew Lodge Hotel in Kegworth on the 18th of July 2009. This will start with a small disco, raffle and luxury buffet before moving on to the main event - 'The Greatest Take That Tribute Band' playing live for over an hour's worth of top entertainment.

"Tickets are now on sale for £20 if you order before 26 June or £25 thereafter. We know times are hard for people in the present economical climate but we strongly believe that this is a worthy cause for charity and we want to make a difference so we hope for a good turnout. We're planning for this to be first of many events we hold in aid of Cancer Research. "

David Taylor MP said "I wish Richard and Amanda every success with this worthwhile venture and already have my tickets booked for what promises to be a very enjoyable evening.

"Like many people, members of my own family have died of cancer so I am a long time supporter of cancer charities and hold regular fund-raising events myself.
"Cancer Research UK has a vision of beating cancer which is perhaps the biggest challenge in medical research. They carry out world-class research to improve our understanding of cancer and find out how to prevent, diagnose and treat different kinds of cancer; thery ensure that our findings are used to improve the lives of all cancer patients; they help people to understand cancer, the progress we are making and the choices each person can make and they work in partnership with others to achieve the greatest impact in the global fight against cancer."
