Chorlton Socialist Club has been formed by Labour Party supporters locally with a view to promote political discussion and culture. It intends to put on monthly events (middle friday of the month) ranging from live gigs to films and discussion panels.
Stealing Sheep are headliners for their Launch Party on November 10th at Chorlton Irish Club. Their set will feature old favourite songs as well as some sneak previews of new songs. They will be ably supported by Galivantes, local gypsy punk, ska political horsemash specialists and the night is polished off with a DJ from Good Afternoon DJs from Salford. In what is a distictively female line-up, local academic, Selina Todd will host the "What is Socialism?" shout out - prizes for best participants.
Over the past few years, Stealing Sheep have cemented their reputation as intelligent purveyoys of psychodelic pop with a weird twist. Their next album will no doubt provide another angle to that journey and the gig in Chorlton will provide a rare opportunity to listen to some of their new songs before their release.
So, whatever you politics, Chorlton Socialist Club will be providing some top class entertainment on November 10th - though be warned - there may well be some raucous chanting of "Ohh Jeremy Corbyn", renditions of the Red Flag with banners to accompany. Get down early, tickets are only on the door and capacity is limited.
