Islington Mill faces licence review

Find out how you can help save one of the UK's most important arts and culture venues here.

It seems no venue is safe in Britain at the moment, as another of our finest institutions is under threat following a complaint by a local resident.

Home to next year's Fat Out FestCowbell's Manchester parties, and of course a thriving arts community, Islington Mill is a hugely important centre for culture in the North of England. It creates opportunities for emerging artists while operating outside a profit-led agenda and actively nurtures creativity in every venture it undertakes (get a feel for the venue below).

The Mill has launched the careers of 1500 artists, and invested £3million in 'experimental residencies, retreats and collaborations which have gone on to inform mainstream commercial and grant-funded practice.'

Its an epicentre of creativity, fostering an ever growing community of creatives that in the past 15 years has proven indispensable in UK culture. Needless to say, it's by far too important to have to close.

But as we've seen with fabric, and from Liverpool's 24 Kitchen Street, creative and cultural spaces can be massively undervalued by the powers that be, but as in the case of the former, by taking action these institutions can be saved. Islington Mill have urged everyone that loves the venue to email licensing@salford.gov.uk to fill them in on why the building is important to you.

With everyone's help, Islington Mill will hopefully survive this setback and continue to thrive for many years to come.
