Ahead of his Wax:On debut in Leeds on 26th February 2011 alongside Tensnake, Annie Mac, Benga and a whole load more, The Magician drops by to tell us about the magic behind the name, his hotly anticipated upcoming productions, vodka and Johnny Depp.

What drew you to the appendage ‘The Magician’?
The "unreal" side and being able to create mystery and magic. With a Magician, you can expect lot of things. When I was young, If I went to a party where there was a Magician, I always expected something but I didn't know what exactly sure. I was very excited to see him! The Magician is someone who can handle and enigmatic supernatural things. I think that at night/party/club people need that also. Escape, listening to magical sounds.

What is your musical ‘guilty pleasure’?
I'm very influenced by the 80's, Disco, New Wave, Synthpop, Glamour... When I DJ, I play from 105 to  125 bpm.  Nu Disco, Balearic, Italo, House, 90's, Electro, 80's, Psychedelic...

What is your favourite gig venue and why?
It's hard to say...  I try to enjoy every gig. I like playing in the UK, people are open minded! I like also East Europe, Australia, Chile...  and some "unusual" cities like Tbilisi or Kiev.  As there aren't so many parties/venues, when something happens, people can't miss it and it's a blast! About the venue itself,  it is in Brussels and called "Libertine Supersport".

Any productions coming out in the near future and who would you love to work with on a record?
My EP is almost finished,  it's about details now and then signing it with a label. Three remixes are coming out, Lykke Li ‘I Follow’, The Aikiu ‘The Red Kiss’ and Beni ‘Bubbles’. I have also a side project with Yuksek. We called it ‘Peter and The Magician’. A first track will be presented on the next Kitsuné compilation.

What gets you up in the morning?
When I have the time, a long shower, sport and some fresh fruits (if no time, just my alarm clock!).

What keeps you awake at night?
Some shots of Vodka

Which actor would play you in a film about your life?
Johnny Depp in Edward Scissorhands and the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland (the cartoon)
