Manchester is a city that reigns when it comes to producing talent, drawing in creatives from beyond. And one that is proud to be from Manchester is no other than iconic illustrator Stanley Chow. Known best for his distinctive portrait illustrations, which have featured everyone from athletes, actors and musicians to Hollywood icons.
Chow returns to his roots to ignite one of his other passions, music. Before becoming the artistic sensation he is, throughout the 90s and early 2000s, Stanley Chow was a regular behind the decks at many city centre venues, including The Roadhouse, Dry Bar, Fab Cafe and Night & Day. Due to perform on Friday 27th February, Chow will be heading to The Garden Bar (formerly The Font) in Chorlton for a one-off special set.
Stanley Chow's appearance falls into The Garden Bar’s new programme of curated music, comedy and community-led nights, following its relaunch as a family-run neighbourhood bar and restaurant. So expect an array of soul, funk, indie, hip hop, dance and a few unexpected gems for good measure.
And with the BRITs just around the corner, Chow played his part with a BRITs Art Trail across Manchester. Curated by Stanley Chow, the trial brought together more than 20 local artists to transform parts of the Northern Quarter and Ancoats. Boasting an open-air style gallery as part of the wider celebrations around the BRIT Awards and BRITs Fringe. The trail features murals, window installations and other public displays celebrating the city’s creativity and musical heritage.
