The Concept & Venue

Carriage 34 is a brand new concept bar and cocktail club located in Waterloo’s fashionable Lower Marsh area. The bar has a unique vintage train carriage theme, which transports you to a time where travel was laced with class, comfort and even a touch of wistful romance.

The early to mid 20th century is known for its class and comfort. When you step in to Carriage 34 this is immediately evident as you become immersed in the opulent décor. Deep olive green leather banquette seating, cherry oak panelling, dark maple and slate flooring immediately shut out the sometimes garish face of London and replace it with a far more refined environment. Where some other bars can have a clinical feel in an attempt to be modern, Carriage 34 uses a mixture of candelabra style lighting and chandeliers feature throughout to add warmth, personality and character.

Take a seat in one of the three train style seated booth areas and take in the scenery as our unique booths and “windows” enrich the travel experience. With a cocktail in hand and your favourite guys and gals around you, there’s no doubt that good times will ensue. You don’t need a ticket to ride in the carriage but it is best to book a booth if you plan on joining us on a Friday or Saturday evening.

The Location

Carriage 34 is situated between Westminster Bridge Road and Waterloo Road (Lower Marsh) in the art and theatre enriched South Bank area of central London. This makes Carriage 34 ideal for theatre goers to enjoy the drinks and atmosphere before or after a show. Situated one minute walk from Waterloo train station and a short walk from Southwark tube station (Jubilee Line) Carriage 34 is at the core of London with great links to get you safely here and home again. Though once you get in, you may lose track of time and miss the odd train home. Don’t worry about that though - we’ll keep you company till the next one....and the next one.....and the next one.....

The Drink

A large selection of top name spirits are on offer. These not only go into our spirit and mixer servings but are also used by our talented mixology team offer an extensive cocktail menu to keep the 250 capacity crowd watered. These range from classics such as Mojitos and cosmopolitans to our own unique blends which are mixed before your eyes with showmanship and flare by our expert team. And if the mixing skills have left you impressed, just wait till you taste it!

Draught beers and a wide range of Champagnes are also on offer if you’ve got something to celebrate or you just fancy adding some sparkle to your evening!

The Music

Early evening is when it’s time to get in the swing of things. Join us for afterwork drinks on a Friday and you’ll find upbeat speakeasy style music at a level which allows you to review the week and rejoice the arrival of the weekend with your colleagues. The lighting will be adjusted as night sets in and on busier nights a DJ takes charge late into the evening for when things get lively. As much as Carriage 34 loves to embrace the vintage, sometimes you can’t help but love a nice fat beat! With that in mind our DJs cater for a range of musical tastes with sets including Dance, hip hop, soul and R&B.

The Atmosphere

The décor, music and old fashioned drinks combine to great effect, creating that prohibition feeling of a hidden secret room, a bootlegger’s speakeasy. As with the music however, a little modern twist never hurt anybody. Like the speakeasies of old, Carriage 34 welcomes anyone who’s in need of refreshment, great company and a break from the norm. So come in with colleagues after work, relax before a theatre show, kill some time before your journey home or get your groove on and party!

In the days of prohibition in America, Carriage 34 would have been the best kept secret on the block. Here and now however, we don’t care if Carriage 34 is the worst kept secret on the planet!

The Last Word

Al Capone once said, “prohibition has made nothing but trouble”. With all due respect Mr. Capone, it also made a fair few swinging parties!

Our aim at Carriage 34 is to welcome people in with a smile and a drink and send them away with a bigger smile and some great memories conjured up thanks to our unique theme, explosions of flavour and permeating atmosphere.

To paraphrase Casablanca – of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world, by all means walk in to ours.......
