Coded Rhythm 2nd Birthday w/ Nightmares on Wax & Onra

This Autumn sees Coded Rhythm celebrate its 2nd birthday, and in accordance with the big event they've got a mass offering of hip hop, disco and house set out for Friday 17th October at Gorilla. 

Serving up the hip hop beats is the brainchild of DJ Ease, Nightmares on Wax, the project combines a hip hop aesthetic with funk sensibilities and experimental electronica to form a sound that is both laid back and adventurous. It's no wonder that his work was snapped up by hallowed imprint Warp Records.

The longstanding association with Warp all spans from the early days when N.O.W released underground hit 'Dextrous' with former sidekick Boy Wonder, the track provided the foundations for classics such as 'You Wish' (below) and a host of others across his seven album long discography.

Highlights of his brilliant back catalogue were revisited this year in his 'Best Of' EP 'N.O.W Is The Time' which recapped on what has been a supreme career for the hip hop fusionist. Expect a masterclass in oddball funk, downtempo trippiness and skewed hip hop from the irreverent beatsmith.

Refusing to be ruled by genre constraints is France's Onra, a true alchemist of the controls, threading together an eclectic mix of hip hop, R'n'B and disco lathered in a sample heavy demeanor greatly demonstrated in his mix (below), this talented greatly received on the club circuit and has seen the Parisian grow from strength to strength.
