Whilst many of you may see the prospect of spring in London as pub gardens becoming more attractive and festivals starting up again, this week, Chelsea in Bloom is forcing your eyes away, and instead towards the mind-boggling floral displays covering two streets across West London.

Running from 18th–24th May, the free festival sees shops, restaurants, hotels and public spaces across Chelsea transformed with extravagant floral creations, and this year’s “Flowers in Space” theme might just be its wildest yet, with giant floral UFOs, towering dragons and intergalactic installations unveiled at yesterday’s launch.

More than 125 brands are taking part across the week, each putting their own spin on the cosmic brief with massive floral creations taking over streets, storefronts and squares across the Kings Road and Sloane Street area. Find the map here.

And yes, they’ve fully committed. We’re talking a UFO hovering above Pavilion Road, a zodiac-inspired constellation installation in Sloane Square, a giant floral globe celebrating David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, and even a four-metre dragon and Pegasus taking over Sloane Street.

Alongside the displays themselves, visitors can also jump on complimentary walking tours and free rickshaw rides throughout the festival, helping you tick off as many installations as possible across the week.

There’s also the return of the People’s Champion vote, where visitors can pick their favourite display online between 18th and 21st May, while official RHS judges hand out awards including Best Floral Display, Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes, and the Innovation Award.

Chelsea in Bloom runs from 18th to 24th May across Chelsea and is completely free to explore, so if you’re in London this week, why wouldn't you want to go and stare at some flowers from another galaxy?
