A collection of Andrew Weatherall’s personal studio gear has gone up for auction on behalf of his family, giving fans and fellow artists a rare opportunity to own tools once used by one of the most fearless and influential producers in UK music history.
Hosted by Soundgas, specialists in “rare, vintage, and unusual recording gear and musical instruments”, the auction features 12 pieces from Weatherall’s original collection, from vintage synths and effects to MIDI controllers to pedals and more.
Among the highlights are a Moog Rogue, a Roland TR-77 drum machine, as well as two Roland keyboards, a Sequential Circuits Pro-One, and a Latronic Notron MIDI Step Sequencer, with some items already attracting four-figure bids.
Bidding has been live since Friday, May 2nd, and will close on Sunday, May 11th at 11PM BST, meaning there's just over five days left to bid.
Ian Weatherall, Andrew's brother, wrote on the auction page: "We lost Andrew, totally unexpectedly, a little over five years ago, and I know that time can be a great healer, but the massive sense of loss has not subsided at all. He was not only my older brother, but also my hero. He achieved everything on his own terms... no compromise!"
Weatherall’s legacy - from co-producing Screamadelica to decades of genre-defying DJ sets, remixes and original work - is etched into the fabric of UK electronic music. The gear in this auction represents more than vintage hardware; it’s a piece of the creative process of an artist who never stood still.
"His creativity was matched by his intelligence and quest for knowledge, whilst maintaining the most wicked sense of humour," Ian continued.
The family had originally stored Andrew’s full archive with the intention of a future exhibition. But as Ian explained:
"Musical equipment does not appreciate being stored away, unused, for great lengths of time... and with that in mind, we have instructed Soundgas, as experts in their field, to help us rehome Andrew's collection."
"It is also very important to us that this equipment continues to be used... to create... to push boundaries... but above all, see the light of day, and be cherished by people who recognise Andrew's contributions to music and beyond."
"This is what Andrew would have wanted... so if you are successful in purchasing anything sold here, please cherish the fact that you own something of Andrew's... but also please keep creating, pushing boundaries...all without compromise!"
