Charles Lamb once said, “New Year’s Day is every man’s Birthday” - well if that’s the case then there’s no better time to celebrate, right? However if like me you are a tad cynical of the overpriced club nights, jam-packed bars, and the compulsory obligation to have as much fun as possible, fear not! We have rounded up a number of unusual and complementary events to enjoy in London this New Year’s Eve, with not a toilet queue or credit card in sight. A good night is guaranteed when enjoyed with friends… a midnight kiss is optional.

White Rabbit
Dalston’s coolest new restaurant-come-hangout is throwing a New Year’s Eve party! Kicking off at 9.30pm with nibbles from the glorious open kitchen, the bar has been assured to be fully-stocked with cocktails, bubbly and beverages abundant. Even the in-house Thorens record player will have a good old airing for a night of drinking, dancing - and no curfew. Attendees can choose to have a three-course meal prior, from a specially created steak menu. NYE/9.30pm Onwards, £10 per head, 15-16 Bradbury St N16 8JN.

Bounce
The state-of-the-art ping pong club is having a party and what’s more, it’s free ping pong all night! The New York style shindig will provide the usual woodfire pizzas and delicious cocktails we have come to love, as well as a dancefloor hosted by Mr Wiff Waff himself. There is also a private karaoke room and games tournaments - meaning you can celebrate the New Year with a difference. NYE/8.00pm-2.00pm, £40 per head, 121 Holborn EC1N 2TD

Drink Shop Do
Drink Shop Do is a lovely concept and always a lot of fun, whether you visit for afternoon tea, a card-making class or a disco dance. This New Year’s Eve is Vegas-themed so expect dancers, Vegas décor, glitter cannons and popcorn & pretzels. Attend in your best Vegas outfit and prepare to roll with the big guns straight into 2013! NYE/7pm-3.00am, £20 per head with a free drink before 9pm, 9 Caledonian Road N1 9DX

Blitz Party New Year’s Eve Special
For a retro NYE, root around your nearest charity shop for some dashing 40’s attire and head to the shelter in Shoreditch. Swing dance to your heart's content with big bands and DJs, and woo the ladies with your handsome looks and proud medals. There’s never been a better excuse to dress up and wave your Union Jacks with pride - a perfect way to end a fantastic British year. NYE/9pm-late, £40 per head, The Arches 29 New Yard Inn EC2A 3EY

Have a very happy New Year!
