In the age of cross-genre and musical diversity, the proactive team from Sound Conspiracy Promotions provokes by bringing together acoustic folk/rock and avant-garde jazz for a special music evening at Star of Kings on Thursday, April 23rd.
The team will present a BBC Leicester Radio talent featured on BBC Introducing show - Nuala-Bennett Wilford - familiar in the Leicester and London acoustic scene with her husky and powerful vocals and remarkable song pieces sending meaningful messages about life.
Last year, Nuala's distinctive voice has been awarded by legend Nile Rogers as being selected from thousand of others across the country to be recorded as a lead vocal in a remixed version of by 'Le Freak' by Chic... And when it comes to her live performance: 'A performance filled with passion that drew the audience in?Impressive? - she's said as an outstanding actfrom the Leicester scene.
Nuala's top collaborations include musicians like Rudimental plus other talents and yet she stays true to her organic sound when performing live. You will find her in the middle of the stage accompanied only by her acoustic guitar. At the Star of Kings she will be presenting her latest written 'poppy sing a-long' tunes like Pop Idol as well as her heart breaking telling-the-truth folky belters from the album 'Nuala', released in 2013. Ready for an intimate performance?
For the other half of the night, Sound Conspiracy will meet you with Jazz quarted OTTER OTTER. Even though being talents in the jazz club London scene, they contribute their music to the audience in general: "we don't have 1 particular signature tune, we compose constantly so the sound always changes. More than anything we are avant-garde improvisers, influenced by a wide range of music so hopefully attract a wide range of listeners".
OTTER OTTER quarted was formed in 2013 and stands for a group of fellows from the Jazz department at Middlesex University united by their common dedication and a high level of talent: Seb Silas, saxophones; Rowan Hudson, keyboards; JJ Stillwell, bass; Angus Bishop, drums. The ensemble will be augmented by Nikos Ziarkis on guitar for this performance.
On the night, the band will be performing their own reworkings of songs from musicals such as 'Annie' and 'Oliver' and films like 'An Affair To Remember' and the 'Pink Panther' series. In stripping back the songs to just their melodies, OTTER OTTER avert the interfering cultural associations and present the material in a context that works for them, with a focus on freedom and simplicity!
