About

Flat Pack Music is a registered charity (CIO No. 1191849). We are a North West England music charity focused on providing a positive change in the perception of and engagement with music and the performing arts. Our aim is to facilitate cross generational and community closeness, whilst helping to support mental and physical well being through music.

Flat Pack Music has been working with these goals in mind since 2017. We have introduced new audiences young and old to classical music and opera, helped young professionals develop their skills through performance opportunities and masterclasses, and brought communities together in their own public spaces through musical events.

We focus on making our performances as accessible as possible. We perform our Operas in English, we cut heavy repetition out (where possible) in favour of a more modern linear narrative, with familiar and exciting settings. For example, our production of Cosi fan Tutte is set in an Essex coffee shop, and our production of the Marriage of Figaro used a Downton Abbey style setting. When performing music in a foreign language in concerts, we have written a narrator part as a verbal explanation of the narrative to aid the audience's understanding.

We aim to have British Sign Language interpreters to help engage with the D/deaf community at future opera performances (funding permitting). This will involve the production of a Sign Language Libretto that the signers will then interpret during the performance.
