site description
Common People is an outdoor event utilising a park field, and this can pose some mobility problems, particularly in bad weather conditions. If it rains it may get muddy and access around the site (other than on paths) may be very difficult. Electric wheelchairs can tackle most areas without too much trouble but the ground can be uneven in places and is predominantly on grass.
There are some pathways which run through the festival entrance down the centre of the festival, but areas by the stages are on grass.
Common People do not offer any internal transport due to the limitations of moving around the site.
There are 3 major stages and performance areas. The mainstage is 190 metres from the entrance, the Uncontained Stage is 250 metres from the entrance and the Uncommon Stage is 170 metres from the entrance.
The festival site is very flat which should aide mobility around the park.
The Accessible carpark is located on Cemetery Road. Please note that you can only park here if you are a Blue Badge holder. Please note that this parking is only available when you arrive, and is subject to availability. If you arrive without this documentation you will be refused entry to the car parking area.
Travelling to/from the festival
TRANSPORT TO COMMON PEOPLE
Common People will take place on the area known as The Flats on the Common in Southampton City Centre.
ENTRANCES
This year there will be two entrances into Common People:
EAST ENTRANCE
The East Entrance is located on the pathway on to the Common from Northlands Road, just off The Avenue, for people coming from the Hackney Carriage Taxi Rank at The Cowherds Pub, shuttle bus from City Centre, Southampton Train Station or walking from the The Avenue.
WEST ENTRANCE
The West Entrance is for people coming from Hill Lane and the official Pick-up / Drop-off Point at Richard Taunton College for Private Hire Taxis, family and friends.
Please do not attempt to enter by any other route as you will be asked to continue or turn back towards one of the two entrances. Take a nice stroll through the park if you are entering from the North of Southampton Common.
DRIVING
Important note. There is no car parking available at the festival so please use public transport or suggested town centre car parks, which are all 5 minutes walk from the City Centre shuttle bus route, if you are not walking or cycling to the event.
If you’re driving to the event and using one of the car parks, please ensure you have a designated driver.
Drink Driving
- the consequences of a drink drive conviction can ruin your life: a criminal record; a heavy fine; loss of your licence/freedom; potential job loss
- one pint may lose you your car for a whole year
- the only safe option is not to drink alcohol if you are planning to drive
- you don’t have to feel drunk to be a drink driver
- THINK! Don’t drink and drive
