Our gig night, every other month at The Hairy Dog brings fresh music to Derby's best venue. Gigs run 6pm til 9pm - there's not a lot else to do on a Sunday except eat good dinner, have a nap, pop to a gig, and still get home early cos it's a school night, right? 16+ but Under 18s must be with an adult.


Leah Wilcox
Midland's own Leah Wilcox is a gritty glitterball of a songwriter. A mix of romance, fun and edge, she shares songs of the female experience in her unique alt-americana style. Starting at open mics at 15 in Derby, Leah began borrowing equipment from school for pub gigs until she could buy her first acoustic guitar. Now, at 22, Leah's hazy sound is rooted Indie Pop-Rock influenced by a diet of artists including Alanis Morissette, Fleetwood Mac, Lola Young, CMAT, Bess Atwell, Suzanne Vega and more. Alongside her dynamic band she dotingly nicknames 'her chikas' expect a set with dashes of choreography, energy, with a sense of groundedness.

JJ Lovegrove
JJ Lovegrove is a Nottingham based independent conceptual solo artist with previous support tours including Another Sky, Colouring, Penelope Trappes, Jesca Hoop, Roxanne De Bastion & Then Jerico plus appearances at numerous festivals including the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury, Barefoot, Deerstock, Dot2Dot & numerous 'Track Of The Week' features on BBC Introducing & BBC Introducing stage appearances.

Her 2nd album 'History Is The Struggle Of Becoming' (Out 29th May) Recorded & Produced by Mercury Prize-nominated Ed Harcourt at his Wolf Cabin Studios, blends dark art-pop with spectral textures & showcases JJ's haunting, almost operatic vocals & fearless artistry. Featuring Ed Harcourt & Tim Smart (The Specials) on brass to really plant the song in the landscapes of Nottingham that helped shape this cinematic D.H. Lawrence-inspired album.

Derventio
Derventio is a 4-piece Derbyshire-based alternative band from the heart of Chesterfield, England.

The band formed in January 2026, completing a group of young and aspiring artists, meeting and bonding at an open mic venue in their hometown. Although a young group, the band dedicates itself to being set apart from the norm and being fresh to a new crowd of people.

Their unique brand of entertainment fuses poetic lyricism and metaphorical twists on personal experiences with dynamic vocals and tight instrumentals that will make you want to get on board with their community and followers.

Supporting up-and-coming artists, along with building a following, is what the band prides itself on, working hard to network and build connections in the industry. Tirelessly, the band is developing a new EP of fresh music to give to the world and the ones who have supported and taken a chance on them from the very beginning.

All bands are on a door split so they get a fair share of ticket sales - we take our expenses out AFTER bands have had their share. By supporting these gigs you are genuinely directly supporting bands. Of course as standard, unlike bigger venues neither us nor The Hairy Dog take commission from any merch sales.
