Formed in Chicago in 1990 by Doug McCombs and John Herndon, Tortoise is a pioneering instrumental post-rock band known for blending dub, jazz, krautrock, and electronica. Featuring a rotating lineup of multi-instrumentalists including John McEntire, Dan Bitney, and Jeff Parker, the group gained acclaim for their complex, studio-oriented compositions and unique, often percussion-heavy sound.
