"Fingerstyle/fingerpicking guitarist Aaron Lawrence, born in Britain and raised in Greece composes instrumental music for the guitar which has a blend of Latin, World, Mediterranean, and Arabic styles."
"Also in his repertoire are some carefully selected favourite covers, reconstructed to suit his fingerstyle playing though still true to their original form from his key influences such as Dominic Miller, Sting, Madonna, Wolfgang Haffner and Schiller to name but a few..."
I started playing guitar from about 10 years old. I took it more seriously though and started going out and performing when I was 16. At the time I was living with my family in Greece. Since 2007 though when I came back to the UK, I totally broken down, de-constructed what I was doing because I got into mellow, emotional music, even if this was dance music in nature. So I started teaching myself 'fingerpicking', classical style guitar which I was mostly inspired from Dominic Miller, Sting's Guitarist. Thereby, a couple years down the line I started going to open mics performing mainly, but not exclusively Sting covers. I was heard by many musicians, promoters and later friends who told me "you should consider doing your own stuff" which later I did.
So since 2010 I've been writing my own material focusing primarily but not exclusively on moody, atmospheric 'instrumentals'.
I have a very old fashioned theory when it comes to music, I try to be as original and unique as possible, I do not want to follow the trend by any means! My genre and style revolves very much around my main influences.
"What I do has to please me"
It's a meditation above all, it's got to be emotional. I think there's no point doing something if you don't enjoy it. What I do means a lot to me and I aim to maintain this first. Fame, publicity and money is something I aim to achieve by doing what I do. I will never play music I don't like to play, that I don't feel, have a connection with or try to be someone else or even just do something fast without the thought and passion just to achieve success. I'd rather take my time to think, tweak and de-construct what I'm doing until I'm genuinely pleased with it.
