The Convulsions are a sharply dressed retro riff based mod funk punk Boogaloo soul outfit featuring harmonica, horns, organ, bass, drums and creature screams. Originally based in Chicago when Ben Ruth, band founder, brought with him from England the old concept of British Rhythm and Blues as a sweat pouring, often blood letting, shaking manic musical experience with roots in bands such as the Yardbirds, Pretty Things, Animals, Big Three, (okay, even lunatics like Screaming Lord Sutch) and then merged on the US side, Blues Magoo's, Wailers, Sonics, Standells, and other 60's US garage stalwarts through to the proto funk of Maceo Parker, Lowell Fulsom, Fabulous Counts and countless urban ghetto deep funk obsurities et al: groups who shared similar heroes in Little Richard, James Brown, Howlin' Wolf, and any number of truly touched and demented kings and queens of iconoclastic riff based mayhem during the US's turbulent and groove defining musical past.

Think two tone, garage riffs with B3/harmonica funk. High energy somewhat insane yet strangely demented and without pills and frills.
