The African Sunset Project (Aka The ASP) were formed in 2017 by established DJ/Producer Maurice Bird (One Half of the group Mange Le Funk) as one of his many musical guises.

The ASP music is soulful, deep, drum/percussion driven, melodic , at times jazzy & with melancholic moments sprinkled with afro latin vibes. The music is written with emotion and feeling of which The ASP hopes the listener can tap into and relate to in their own personal lives.

The concept of percussion & the drum is as ancient as mankind itself. Drums and percussion are first known to have been used as far back as 6000 BC. Since the dawn of humankind, they have been used by all cultures for more than just simply creating music. (Messaging, religious & civil uses are a few examples.) So you see, the drum is very deep rooted with our makeup as human beings, the rhythm is in our blood.

The ASP incorporates infectious afro latin, earthy drum, percussive rhythms and grooves into the music that tap into these ancient roots within ourselves. Whether you feel like dancing or just listening, the drum rhythms, patterns, percussive grooves and epic melodies with take you on a musical journey to beautiful sunsets in far away places
