Tanner Ross aka Marcel Wave

Tanner Ross has risen quickly to shine amidst the hot lights and fast life of the international dance music scene. Born and bred in New Jersey, Tanner moved to Boston to study sound synthesis at the esteemed Berklee College of Music in 2005. His experiences at Berklee drove him deeper and deeper into the underground dance music scene. That led to a chance meeting with Justin Martin and Claude VonStroke, which soon after saw him being tapped to remix VonStroke’s now classic “Who’s Afraid of Detroit?” release on the Dirtybird label. That stepping stone lead to the dancefloor devastating “Kruger Fingers” release, produced alongside studio partner James Watts aka KiloWatts. This would continue into additional remix efforts by Blaze, Cats n Dogs, Swag, JT Donaldson and more.

He and Watts then moved forward to form Voodeux http://www.last.fm/music/Voodeux www.myspace.com/voodeuxmusic; the mysteriously dark techno project on Mothership music. This project marked a major shift in his production style; the music is nightmarish, brooding and muscular with cataclysmic overtones that both members of the group refuse to speak publicly about. Since the first Voodeux single, “The Curse” dropped, it has been non-stop since with releases and remixes on Freerange(as Marcel Wave), Odori, Dirtybird, Om and of course Mothership.

As a DJ, Tanner’s style is broad, but similar to his productions of late, he tends to focus on the darker side of House. During his recent stint as resident at the Dirtybird monthly party held at New York City’s APT, Tanner had the time to craft his identity as a DJ. He lists Konrad Black, Martinez, and Mattias Tanzmann as influences and can regularly be seen holding his own next to stalwarts like Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Matthew Dear and Ryan Elliot.

Currently, Tanner is putting the final touches on the Voodeux full-length album, and he plans on resuming working on solo projects, in addition to rocking dancefloors worldwide as a DJ. Also be on the lookout for Voodeux live performances, with a premiere peformance during the 2009 DEMF.
