Biography

Acclaimed blues-rock guitarist Saiichi Sugiyama and his band are touring the UK in the Spring of 2017 to coincide with their new album release in late April.

Saiichi [pronounced: “sigh-eee-chee”], who has a career spanning 25 years in the British blues scene, writes music that harks back to the halcyon days of rock and soul, 1965-1974, when all you needed was love and music ruled supreme. His co-writer is the poet and lyricist, Pete Brown, who wrote the words to Cream’s classics “Sunshine of Your Love“ and “White Room”.

The single released in advance of the album, “Melting Away”, featured the late bass hero Andy Fraser, ex-Free and composer of the 1970 smash single, “All Right Now” and was described by Classic Rock Magazine as “reminiscent of Free at their most powerful… an emotional slice of blues rock”.

Blues in Britain magazine in a live review described the album's new songs as ranging from “a driving, snare-led Motor City number, where Saiichi’s singing-tone Les Paul soars into a furious, rocking close” via “boppy, poppy soul” to the “smoky pulse with a fine expressive spacious solo over the gradually intensifying beat”, “an intriguing mix of what had gone before” with “gooseflesh-raising peaks and grin-inducing solos … a real winner”.

The band’s live performance was described as “a joyous at once familiar and fresh experience” by the Tonemonkeywebsite. This tour by Saiichi Sugiyama and his band represents a true chance for lovers of soulful, lyrical guitar music to witness a real artist at work: don't miss out!
