Born in Tucson, Arizona, Ray started his musical career at the age of eight with his family band. His influences range from Paco de Lucia, Egberto Gismonti to Pat Metheny. He has toured internationally with his own group as well as with renowned artists such as Joan Sebastian, Jose Manuel Figueroa, and the Grammy award winning group, Quetzal. In 2004 he received the JUSFC Creative Artist Grant to study the folk music of Japan and develop compositions based on his experience living in the country.
