Biography

Queen Cult are a femme-queer fronted four-piece rock band based in Macclesfield, Cheshire formed by lead vocalist and guitarist Maisie Johnson and bassist Leila Jacklin, with Brodie Carson on drums and Piers Jarvis playing rhythm guitar. Their musical references are broad and include No Doubt, Paramore, Royal Blood and Nothing But Thieves.

After a pandemic imposed hiatus, Queen Cult returned in September 2021 with their second single ‘Show & Tell’, which details their candid struggles with the British government’s response to the pandemic. It was widely supported by music blogs with Contact Music describing Queen Cult as “the Queer Band you’ll fall in love with by 2022”. In November they released ‘A Song About Consent’, which is a call out to being unheard and oppression in the modern age. It was chosen as BBC Introducing Stoke’s Record of the Week.

New single ‘Calm’ preceded the politically charged debut EP, ‘Woman That I Know’ on 28th January 2022, with tracks landing the band their first major playlists support, including five Spotify editorial playlists including New Music Friday UK and All New Rock; Deezer’s Girl’s Rock playlist; YouTube Music’s New Alternative and Tidal’s Indie Britain playlist.

Very much a live focussed band, amongst a string of performances in the second half of 2021 they appeared at LBGTQ+ nights Pssy Culture in Sheffield and Queer Off in London, as well as the Your City Festival in Stoke and the Macc in October Festival.

Queen Cult were chosen by Music Venues Trust to participate in Revive Live Tour in January 2022 to support grass roots venues across the UK, and supported LibraLibra on five dates. Their support for small venues continued in February with an Independent Music Week performance in Stoke and they also supported Arxx in Brighton. They have a number of forthcoming live dates.
