Penniless Cove is a duo from Wales and Italy, who met and started working together on various projects at music college before coming together in their present incarnation, a collaboration that is causing ripples across the alt-folk scene in London.

The pair write hard-edged emotive and expansive alternative folk music tinged with jazz and classical elements, moving between passages of frail delicacy to great sweeping strokes of passion in songs that tell of everyday trials of which the magical detail is often forgotten.

Phoebe Martha (piano, vocals, guitar) has a powerful voice of great range and depth, and a forceful yet intricate command of the piano, perfectly offset by the warm and rich playing of electronica-artist-turned-melodist Luca Nasciuti (cello).

Citing diverse influences from Joanna Newsom and Dresden Dolls to Gorecki, their sound has been honed over recent performances all over London, and from their recording session with Andrew Hill. This has yielded a trove of beautifully arranged recordings, some of which feature on their debut ep.
