Biography

DJ Matt Bell

Preston Lancashire

Early years

Started Dj'ing in 1988 after attending one of the many infamous Blackburn warehouse parties. In 1989 started putting on small events around Preston and Leyland. 1990 saw Matt DJ at his first club night at Adam & Eve nightclub in Blackpool, which started his love affair with the Blackpool clubs. Over the next 4 years Matt played at most of the popular venues in the resort such as Love Shack, The Venue, Central Pier, The Palace to name a few but made his name in the Italian Dance scene from his residency at Zone at Jenks Bar. This was the most popular night in Blackpool and earned that reputation because of the DJ's love of Italian Dance. Matt played along side Barrie Jay, John J (Jepson), Chris Baker, Andy D and Andrew Deane. So popular was this night that the DJ's minus Andy D still put on events under the Jenks banner to this day (2013). Matt also played at well known venues throughout the North West such as Bowlers, Angels, Maximes, Wigan Pier to name but a few.

Towards the end of 1994 Matt started to change his music style as his love of Garage and house was starting to show in his sets at Zone and especially at the Empire allnnighter in Morecambe and started to play some slots for a night in Preston called Feel which was just starting up. Feel was run by Tim Pearson and George Thompson and it was George who was a regular at Zone approached Matt to appear. After appearing several times throughout 1994 in 1995, Matt was finally given a residence at Feel and was given the back room to play his style all night. Matt went onto play Feel until 1998 when he went to prison for a cannabis related offence.

Throughout his days at Feel Matt also played regularly at Angels in Burnley. Between Angels and Burnley Matt has shared the decks with the most well know DJ's in the world, such as Sasha, Carl Cox, Sister Bliss, Joey Beltram and Pete Tong.

Recent appearances

In 2002 Matt had a brief reunion with the Feel boys and played 2 gigs but then retired from the scene until 2009 where the love of old skool was picking up pace. Matt started to play nights for the Happy Days crew. Due to Matt's knowledge of the old skool scene and his history, it was only a matter of time before he was booked for numerous other Old Skool gigs playing for Bowlers REUNION, More Cake (Resident), Northern project, Rejuvination, Revive, Paul Taylors-Retro and of course Jenks.
