Biography

While some artists are born under a lucky star, London native Martha Giles has created a leading light all of her own. Raised in a family of professional jazz and classical musicians, Martha was fully trained in Cello, Double Bass and Piano as a child. However the black sheep of the Giles clan found an affinity with many artists from Bjork to Boards of Canada and subsequently created a path in high contrast for herself in the world of electronic music.

Martha first got a taste for dance music and the vibrant culture that surrounds it from her oldest brother who let his baby sister enjoy the occasional spin on his prized set of Technics in the mid 90‘s.

Her devotion to the beat continued to be re-ignited when introduced to the art of mixing once more through attending squat parties with her older brother DJing all across the capital. Totally inspired, Martha had found her passion through falling in love with the dirty tribal music played by many of the rave DJ’s; so the ambitious teenager started to charge full steam into the industry with a head full of sparkling original ideas.

Previously a professional model, this drive and dedication learnt from survivng in one of the most cut-throat industries has enabled Martha to reach the forefront of the London underground scene, where her heart truly belongs.

More recently Martha can be found working as A&R and bookings manager for the acclaimed London based label, Shades Recordings; she has also released several podcasts, in her unique blend of house and techno, for Shades alongside co-launching the new party Bisou in 2013; popular with the fash pack of Shoreditch.

Flexing her charisma and growing industry savvy, in March 2013 Martha spotted an opening for a presenter at Trailer TV; a Guerilla Music TV show based in a lorry trailer in South East London headed up by DJ & producer Warsnare. The fledgling station has already broadcast interviews with key underground players Rashad & DJ Spin, Slick Shoota, Moresounds & Walter Ego to name a few; Martha‘s infectious, lively performances are a definite propellor for the station is growing in popularity amongst the discerning underground scene.

Martha’s latest venture, presenter and journalist for the ever expanding Bass Music Movement has seen her interview legends Claude von Stroke, Catz & Dogs, Gorgon City, Ardalan and Plezier; Martha is also a popular guest choice for NTS radio.

With DJ gigs at infamous London venues Egg, Pacha, Fire, Cafe 1001 and The Lightbox under her (probably glittery) belt, this girl has proved she is so much more than just a pretty face.

With plans to dive into production and more radio shows next year as well as the expansion of Trailer TV; the sky is the absolute limit for Martha as her star glows brighter with every endeavour. Without a doubt one of the top females to watch in dance music throughout 2015.
