Biography

HardHouse Banton, International, DJ and Producer. To date Jamal Banton aka HardHouse Banton is revered as an iconic producer within the Urban House movement for productions such as 'Reign' , 'Sirens' , 'The Music' the list can go on! These tracks enabled Urban House or UK Funky (the term many use to refer to this genre of house) to become an international movement. HardHouse can also be credited as being the man responsible for (alongside producer DJ Gregory) one of UK Funky's biggest tracks to date 'Migraine Skank'!

HardHouse Banton's eclectic style of music production stems from the mix of Spanish and Jamaican heritage. The passion and fiery temperament of his work being influenced from the Spanish culture, the real 'Hard' style from his Jamaican roots fused with the sounds of UK music make HHB's productions unmistakeable and unforgettable.

Banton always had a passion for music, always asking questions, about who are artists were and who made tracks. Dj’ing was the first thing that attracted Banton. When about 10 years old he used to mess about on his Dads 1 deck hi-fi system, obviously getting in trouble most of the time!! In 1997 he started secondary school in Peckham, meeting some like minded music crazy friends! Up to this day Banton still engineers and is involved in projects with the same group of friends. In about 1999, banton got his first pair of Numark belt drive turntables (which he still has!!) and the DJ craze started! Collecting vinyl weekly from stores like Independent, Lewisham and Blackmarket Records now known as BMSoho. This is when UK Garage was at its highest, tracks coming out of every corner!

In the year 1998 the Banton’s purchased their first home computer. On surfing the new thing called the 'web' lool HardHouse Banton came across a downloadable program called ‘Fruity Loops’. This is where Banton started to practice and build confidence in actually building music, chords, drum patterns, progressions, melodies etc.

2002 at the end of his secondary school, he met a guy called DJ Slimmaz. Slimmaz brought Banton to a very plush studio in Farringdon and here he met the well known ‘Street Dreamz’ (Mike GLC, Pariz1, Johnny Gambles, VDub, Kamikaze) Here Banton learned/worked as the engineer for the rap group. This was great as it was giving Banton the experience with working with patch bays, outboard gear and hands on analogue desks.

In 2003 he attended Southwark college in Bermondsey, to which he was tutored by a great teacher 'Soliheen' one half of the 'Wisechildren'. Banton always gives a thousand thank you's to Slimmaz and Soliheen, ''without them i don’t think anybody would have given me a chance.'' Banton came out of college with a BTEC National Diploma, and some great life-long friends.

2008 brought the Sirens EP to the masses, this is where it all kicked off for Banton, getting recognition as being one of the most influential guys in the UK Funky scene to this day. Having played in many high end clubs in London, outside London, In the E.U and outside the E.U, banton is a highly demanded DJ, playing a lot of exclusive tracks that no one else plays, and enjoying himself while doing it. He is not afraid to experiment on the CDJs. And through experimenting, gets the crowd moving in a different styleee!
