Biography

Fergus McCreadie is a phenomenal young pianist and his trio with David Bowden (bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums) is one of the most exciting young groups in European jazz.

Playing music that reflects the Scottish landscape and traditions while honouring the American and Nordic jazz legacies, they brought audiences to their feet across Northern Europe during their Spring ’19 tour and followed that by winning the Best Album title, for their debut, Turas, at the Scottish Jazz Awards in June and Album of the Year at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, the UK's most prestigious jazz honours, in December. Turas was also shortlisted for the cross-genre Scottish Album of the Year Award, reaching the final ten from 290-plus contenders, a rare feat for a jazz release.

The trio's concerts, highlighting their thrilling virtuosity, brilliantly attuned collective dynamism and their music’s huge emotional charge, have earned five-star reviews and an invitation to appear at the world-famous London jazz club Ronnie Scotts’ prestigious International Piano Trio Festival.

The three musicians met while studying on the jazz course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and soon after forming the group, they won the Peter Whittingham Jazz Prize 2016. McCreadie has since won the Best Instrumentalist title at the Scottish Jazz Awards 2018 and has been nominated in the Best Album and Best Newcomer categories of the Parliamentary Jazz Awards 2019. Bowden won the Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year title in 2017 and along with Henderson (a Jazzwise One to Watch in 2018) was awarded the Peter Whittingham Jazz Prize with the group Square One in 2015.
