Biography

We are delighted to welcome the distinguished Danish classical guitarist Carsten Grøndahl to Hellys Festival. Born in Aalborg in 1961, he was educated at the Academies of Music in Aalborg, Malmö (Sweden) and Copenhagen. Since then he has attended masterclasses with John Williams, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell and Roberto Aussel.

Apart from the standard classical guitar, Mr Grøndahl also plays an 11-string alto instrument, on which he performs early music. One of the most sought-after Scandinavian concert guitarists, he has performed all over the world as a soloist, in chamber ensembles, and with major orchestras such as the Belgrade Symphony Orchestra – whose recent series of engagements with him were critically acclaimed.

A well-known teacher, he gives many masterclasses each year, and has also appeared as a jury member in major international competitions. Carsten Grøndahl's impressive discography of seven solo CDs has been highly rated by international reviewers.
