Biography

Marc Smith is a legendary figure in the UK’s Hardcore / Harddance music scene, having been a foundational presence since its inception. Renowned for his electrifying DJ sets and sharp technical skills, he has played a crucial role in the genre’s evolution. Marc’s journey began in 1985, mixing Hip Hop beats and collaborating with local rappers and break dancers. By the age of 17, he had secured a residency at Glasgow’s infamous Warehouse, where he immersed himself in the burgeoning Acid House scene, laying the groundwork for his future in Hardcore.

Marc quickly rose to prominence with residencies at iconic venues like Glasgow’s Hacienda and Euphoria, where his lightning-fast mixing and scratching skills set him apart. As Hardcore evolved into a global phenomenon, Marc became a leading figure, earning numerous accolades, including Scotland’s No. 1 DJ for six consecutive years. His success was further cemented by international gigs and his influential residency at Rezerection, solidifying his status as a rave culture icon from the late 90s to the present day.

As a producer and remixer, Marc made his stamp with releases like “Pump Up The Noize,” “Boom N Pow,” “Sound of Silence,” and “Techno’d Up,” to name just a few and established his label, Notorious Vinyl, which became synonymous with quality Hardcore music. His prolific output spans Hardcore, Hardstyle, and Drum & Bass, with countless hits to his name. Collaborations with artists like Sharkey, Scott Brown, and Joey Riot and recentally remixed by Frontliner along with contributions to labels like Evolution Records and the Bonkers compilations, have left a lasting impact on the scene.

In 2024, Marc shows no signs of slowing down. His tastes have evolved with the scene, and his sets now encompass the entire Hard Dance spectrum, from Hardcore and Hardstyle to his famous “Rezerection” Oldskool sets and high-octane Hardcore Techno. Marc’s contributions across multiple genres continue to make him one of the most respected and versatile artists in the industry.
