Celebrating Caroline Aherne

Caroline Aherne was one of the most distinctive voices in British television. From Mrs Merton and The Fast Show to The Royle Family, her work combined sharp comedy with warmth, honesty and an understanding of everyday life.

Loved by mainstream audiences and particularly admired by many women, working-class and LGBTQ+ viewers, Aherne's humour celebrated ordinary people with affection, insight and a uniquely northern perspective.

Join author David Scott, whose recent book "Caroline Aherne: Rebel in Disguise" explores Aherne's work, alongside guests who knew and worked with Caroline, for a celebration of her extraordinary career. TThe event will also feature a screening of The Royle Family Christmas Special (Series 2) as well as archive clips from across her career, with thanks to the BFI National TV Archive.
