The Car Man at Sadler’s Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance thriller. Loosely based on Bizet’s opera, it reimagines the story in a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, where the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger disrupts a small town.
Set to one of New Adventures’ most recognisable scores, the production follows a spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. Matthew Bourne’s storytelling is paired with music by Terry Davies, featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite after Bizet’s Carmen.
