About The Car Man
The Car Man at Sadler's Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance production. Loosely based on Bizet’s opera, it is set in a 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, where the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger unsettles a small town.
As the story unfolds, the characters are driven into a cycle of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. The production combines Matthew Bourne’s storytelling with music by Terry Davies, featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite, after Bizet’s Carmen.
Duration: 1 hour 55 mins, including one 20 minute interval.
Before you book
This production uses haze and theatrical smoke effects, as well as a gunshot effect. It is recommended for ages 12+, and there is a strict no under 5s policy.
