About The Car Man
The Car Man at Sadler’s Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance production. Loosely based on Bizet’s opera, it is set in a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West.
When a handsome and enigmatic stranger arrives, the lives and ambitions of a small town begin to unravel. The story follows the characters as they are driven into greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.
The production combines Matthew Bourne’s storytelling with music by Terry Davies, featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (after Bizet’s Carmen).
Duration: 1 hour 55 mins, including one 20 minute interval.
Before you book
This production uses haze and theatrical smoke effects, and includes a gunshot effect. It is recommended for ages 12 and over, and strictly no under 5s are allowed.
