About The Car Man
The Car Man at Sadler's Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne's award-winning dance work, loosely based on Bizet's opera. It moves the action from a 19th-century Spanish cigarette factory to a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, where the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger unsettles the local community.
As the tension rises, the characters are drawn into greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. The production features music by Terry Davies, including Rodion Shchedrin's Carmen Suite (after Bizet's Carmen), and is staged as a dance thriller.
Duration: 1 hour 55 minutes, including one 20-minute interval.
Before you book
This production uses haze and theatrical smoke effects, and a gunshot effect. It is recommended for ages 12+ and strictly no under 5s.
