The Car Man at Sadler's Wells Theatre is Matthew Bourne’s award-winning dance production, loosely based on Bizet’s opera Carmen. Set in a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, it follows a small town as the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger sets off a chain of events.
The story moves through greed, lust, betrayal and revenge, with Matthew Bourne’s storytelling at the centre of the production. Music is by Terry Davies and features Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite (after Bizet’s Carmen).
This is a dance thriller built around a recognisable dramatic score and a tightly drawn storyline, making it a strong choice for audiences looking for a narrative-led stage production.
