Matthew Bourne’s award-winning The Car Man is at Sadler’s Wells Theatre. Loosely based on Bizet’s opera, the production is set in a greasy 1950s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, where the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger unsettles a small town.
The story follows heat, desire and pressure as the characters are drawn into greed, lust, betrayal and revenge. Matthew Bourne’s storytelling is paired with one of New Adventures’ most recognisable scores, with music by Terry Davies featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite after Bizet’s Carmen.
Presented as a dance thriller, the production combines music and movement in a tightly told narrative centred on the consequences of the stranger’s arrival.
Duration: 1 hour 55 mins, including one 20 minute interval.
This production uses haze, theatrical smoke effects and a gunshot effect. It is recommended for ages 12+. Strictly no under 5s.
No exchanges or refunds are available after purchase.
