One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a stage adaptation of Ken Kesey's novel, adapted by Dale Wasserman and directed by Clint Dyer. Set inside a psychiatric facility in the 1970s, it follows Chief Bromden, who has been silent for years, and Randle P. McMurphy, whose arrival unsettles the ward.
Under Nurse Ratched's strict rule, the patients have been stripped of their humanity. As McMurphy's rebellion grows, the production follows how Bromden and the other patients begin to confront voice, freedom and control.
The production stars Aaron Pierre, Giles Terera and Olivia Williams, and also explores colonialism and the social structures built to silence dissent.
Key facts: Suitable for ages 14+. The staging is immersive and in the round, so there may be moments when some action is less visible as actors move around the set.
This production contains mental health conditions, violence and suicide. It also includes haze, smoke, onstage smoking (herbal cigarette), theatrical blood, prop firearms and needles, gunshot sound effects and spark effects.
