Into The Woods in the West End is Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s musical, fresh from a critically acclaimed run at The Bridge Theatre. Directed by Jordan Fein, with set and costume design by Tom Scutt, this production brings together the Baker and his wife, a Witch with a curse, a boy and his cow, a girl in a red cloak, a maiden with long flowing hair and a servant covered in cinders.
The story follows their journeys deep into the woods, where wishes are made, slippers are lost, beanstalks take flight and new friendships are forged. It looks beyond ‘Happily ever after’ to explore what happens next, with magic and darkness running side by side.
The Times described it as “stunning”, while The Standard called it “a triumphant musical mash-up of fairytales”.
